Health Insurance and Federalism – What You Need to Know
To say health care and insurance has been in the news lately would be a minor understatement. The subject of reform has led to reactions ranging from its about time to its a socialist move. One aspect of the situation that is not really being discussed is an issue of federalism and it is important because it reflects a bigger trend.
What is federalism? It is simply a political structure in which there is a central political group and surrounding smaller groups. In the United States, this takes the form of the federal government and the individual states. The biggest issue in federalism is who has the power.
In a country like Switzerland, the central federal government has very little power at all. In the United States, the opposite is the case but states are starting to contest this and the healthcare debate shows us a perfect example.
Eating Right For Your Blood Type Guide
We all know that only certain blood types can donate blood to other blood types. We know that there are certain types of foods that we eat that agree with us and other foods that don’t. We also know that some people are severely allergic to some foods. The book Eat Right for Your Type, by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo, ND, explains how these things are connected.
Basically, the antigens in our blood react negatively to certain foods that have characteristics similar to different blood types. These reactions can cause anything from a little upset stomach to life-threatening allergic reactions. If you know your blood type, this book will guide you to what foods you should probably eat and what foods probably aren’t right for you.
After you’ve read Eat Right for Your Type, you should also read his next book The Geno Type Diet. This book picks up where his first book leaves off and breaks humans into more specific groups he calls Geno types. I call them ancestral types but, either way, determining what type you are and what you should eat is based on where your ancestors evolved.
Here’s Why Pain Patients Should Never Fill Prescriptions Online
A few months ago, my health insurance company sent me a package of information explaining all the advantages to filling my prescriptions through an online pharmacy. It was an impressive report. The savings were substantial. And my regular prescriptions could be filled automatically, without my needing to call them in and then drive to the pharmacy to pick them up. They’d arrive in my mail, without any effort on my part, exactly when I needed them.
It sounded easy, convenient and a solid money saver. I was sold!
On my next office visit, I told my doctor I was taking the high-tech route to getting my meds and gave her the form I needed filled out. She gave me a long, serious look, shook her head and said, “Let me tell you why I don’t recommend this.”
